Chasa Sulai staff quarters for Belvédère Group, Scuol

Starting situation and idea

The client is a famous hotelier, who operates three establishments in Scuol and needs staff all year around. In order to create an incentive for qualified staff, Fanzun will be appointed to design staff quarters in traditional Engadin style.

Approach

The staff quarter have been designed to be Minergie-A compliant and provide 26 furnished studio apartments each with an entrance area, kitchen and bathroom. Distinctive openings with tapered edges cut into the cube quote an element of Engadin architecture in a contemporary interpretation. The materials used are traditional: store, plaster and wood.

Challenges

Chasa Sulai is the first module to convert the BDI Scuol site from an industrial area into the attractive Monolit quarter with multiple residential usages. Located at the seam between the city centre and a newly developed area, is expected to live up to its function as a hinge.
