Apartment Building F at Alte KEB, Chur

Starting situation and idea

The new building is part of the “Alte KEB Chur” neighbourhood on the former site of the ice skating rink. Around 100 attractive apartments are coming up on the site in 6 buildings in a pleasant, traffic-free environment. Common underground parking is available for private vehicles.

Approach

The strict and rhythmic 5-storey building is designed to use space efficiently for three apartments. The spacious south and west facing apartments feature naturally-lit kitchens and bathrooms. Maximum sustainability is achieved by making the buildings compliant with MINERGIE-A/-P/-ECO standards.

Challenges

The square 20 x 20 m corner plot has a north-south alignment. Each floor offers space for three apartments and it was challenging to ensure that each apartment received direct sunlight. The neighbourhood plan requires all buildings to be energy efficient, but this is standard for Fanzun.
