Hotel Steffani, St.Moritz

Starting situation and idea

Hotel owners, the Märki family, had for years worked with a single architect. When the architect retired, the family looked for a new architect and found a suitable successor in Fanzun. As a first step, Fanzun analysed the assets and created a master plan for future refurbishing and potential extensions.

Approach

The master plan is based on continuity so that the owners could undertake extensions step-by-step and the individual works would still show consistent design and yield a congruent ambience. This was achieved by selecting natural materials and specially designing furnishings for the hotel.

Challenges

After uninterrupted operation for over 30 years, the hotel needed to be closed for 5 weeks for full refurbishment of its core, i.e. the kitchen, delivery area and store. Other renovation activities e.g. of the wellness area and sample rooms, could be undertaken while in operation.
